Horse Fact: WW I
January 1, 2014
During World War I the British forces lost 484,000 horses killed in action. After the war 25,000 horses were slaughtered to feed German POWs and the staring local population. 60,000 horses returned to Britain, 85,000 sold to French farmers. In the words of General Seely (Galloper Jack) the Great War could never have been won without the horse.
